A word from our Executive Director
I’ve been actively working in the Affordable Housing world since 2004 and helped developed the resident activity programs that we currently find in Finding Favor. Much of our programming revolves around what we’ve seen, over the past 20 years, as desirable activities to enhance the spiritual wellbeing of our residents, as well as their physical and mental wellbeing. But we are constantly looking for innovative ways to provide these services.
We began a relationship with Brenau University in 2012 while developing a senior community near that campus. The relationship evolved into much more than we ever dreamed. Faculty and students from the Colleges of Occupational Therapy, Nursing, and Geriatric Psychology worked to include sessions, both one on one and group, to bring students to our residents for those sciences. Residents received a direct benefit from the students working directly with them. Students received a direct benefit as they applied classroom teachings directly with the residents. And faculty received a direct benefit as it allowed their students to gain practical usage of their classroom teaching. Faculty also benefited as they published research papers on their work with residents, and one faculty member received her doctorate based on work done at that community. The owner/developer gained a benefit as they met with faculty to advise them on design for the resident apartments and common areas for new project. Finding Favor has expanded that model to now include other institutions of higher learning.

Our goal of providing “services” to our residents at little to no cost has been hugely successful in other programs as well. Another good example is our current partnership with home health care agencies to bring those services to residents who chose to have a visit from a health care worker. The typical home health care agency requires a four-hour minimum to assist a patient. Many of our residents in our independent senior communities don’t require that much time to do small chores, nor can they afford that cost. Through a grant of funds, we’re able to provide short visits to assist with chores such as taking out the trash, mopping the floor, changing bedsheets, checking blood pressure, etc. These are set up in 15 minute increments and residents sign up as they need assistance, at no charge to the resident.
The innovative thinking of our team helps us create programs, such as the ones mentioned above, to enhance our services to the residents in our affordable housing communities. Our Resident Service Directors manage the activity programs and calendars at our communities with a passion for helping others in need. As we grow our nonprofit I know this team with find more and more activities that address the needs of our residents.
We look forward to working with your community to add it to our portfolio. We hire and train the staff needed to run these programs to assure they are well-versed in our philosophy of both giving back to the community and enhancing the resident’s daily living.
Best Regards and may God Bless.
